Governor Shport: Khabarovsk Krai is for New Mechanisms to Attract Chinese Investments
The second session of the Council for Cooperation between Regions of the Russian Far East and Northeast China took place in Beijing. The chairman from the Russian side was Yuri Trutnev, Vice-Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy in the Russian Far East and Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China from the Chinese side.
The participants discussed investment support, development of trans-border transport corridors and cooperation in agriculture. According to Yuri Trutnev, the parties agreed to move cooperation of both countries to a new level and to establish an intergovernmental commission.
During the meeting the Minister for Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Galushka proposed establishing a new mechanism to attract investment from the PRC — Center for Support of Chinese Business in the Russian Far East. According to Mr. Galushka, operators of this platform could be the Agency of the Russian Far East for Investment Promotion and Export Support and Fund of the Russian Far East Development.
Governor of Khabarovsk Krai Vyacheslav Shport supported this initiative. He pointed out that cooperation of the region with Northeast China had advanced recently and a number of concrete projects had been initiated and there are a number of major projects in the pipeline including joint development of the Big Ussuriisky Island, mining, wood processing and aircraft building.
